    Mainframe Storage Engineer


    • Design and develop supportable mainframe (z/OS, Unisys, LinuxONE, Linux on Z) storage engineering solutions based on internal DISA capabilities and customer requirements. This includes solutions for:  storage arrays, storage fabric switches, tape libraries, and de-duplication devices communicating with physical and virtual operating environments.
    • Ensure sufficient capacity exists to support new requirements. Provision and work to obtain new capacity when necessary.
    • Monitor storage devices for errors; work with the storage teams/vendors to resolve error and outages.
    • Perform trend analysis including, system performance; makes recommendations to configuration and procedural changes; participates in planning activities.
    • Perform required functions to ensure onboarding of new storage hardware (to include: monitoring call orders, submitting floor space and power requests, cabling requests, submitting change requests, etc.)
    • Validate solution functionality prior to system or component installation or modification.
    • Engage/coordinate with service desk, technical staff, and customers to resolve technical problems or provide information.
    • Provide support (designing, documenting and planning for) for disaster recovery efforts (real or simulated).
    • Assist with gathering and consolidating estimated implementation labor hours to be included within the engineered solution.
    • Review customer’s service request forms and verify that all pertinent information is listed on the form and coordinate updates as needed.
    • Update workflows as projects progress and respond to project tasks assigned.
    • Participate in and support technical discussion/meetings; create technical solutions that include costing solutions; facilitate technical scoping within other engineering disciplines to include system and software engineers; perform necessary research to support development for Bill of Materials (BOMs); create system designs to include z/OS, Unisys, LinuxONE, Linux on Z; support future studies and research on new technologies and/or initiatives.
    • Review documents (e.g. estimates, Solution Documents (SD’s), BOM’s, estimated labor hour worksheets) for accuracy of information during internal reviews and provides recommendations when applicable.
    • Identify and recommend enhancements to the overall storage architecture as well as assist with the engineering of application-specific storage solutions based on customer requirements.
    • Coordinate and collaborate with other engineers, technicians, organization’s leads/managers, external vendors, customer account representative and project leads/managers as needed to establish a thorough analysis of the storage requirements to incorporate within the solution.
    • Comply with organization’s processes governing solution implementation. This includes the Organization’s Project Process Document, the Implementation Management Office process documents/guidance, and the Business Development Management Office guidance and regulations. 
    • Use provided ticketing management system and ensure tickets (Incident, Change, and Problem) adhere to Service Level and local procedures to ensure timely completion and resolution of team’s tickets.  When issues are noted, identify them to team/technical lead or section supervisor, address with team member to identify deficiencies and plan for improvement. Identify areas for correction; reoccurring events; implement preventive solutions; identify training issues; or create/modify documentation.  
    • Brief government personnel on ongoing Enterprise issues and incidents, including impacts, mitigations, corrections, risks, and benefits of proposed actions.
    • Document processes, procedures, activities using flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, spreadsheets.
    • Support organizational efforts to establish assured computing through the use of data and information sharing.


    IAT Level 1: Must possess one of the following required certifications

    • A+ CE
    • CCNA Security
    • Network +CE
    • SSCP

    Clearance Required: Secret, IT-I

    Education Requirements

    Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math and seven years' experience designing and developing storage engineering solutions for IBM (IBM) and Unisys mainframes.


    Ten years' experience designing and developing storage engineering solutions for IBM (IBM) and Unisys mainframes.

    Certifications Required

    CCNA Security, A+ CE, Network +CE, SSCP

    Certifications Preferred
