Job Summary:

DDC ITS is seeking a z/OS System Managed Storage Specialist

This position is contingent upon contract award.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Installing, customizing, and implementing storage management software products.
  • Planning and carrying out DASD migrations/conversions.
  • Performing analysis and producing management reports on resource utilization.
  • Providing technical assistance to programming and operations staffs.
  • Analyzing requirements and recommending software and hardware solutions.
  • Evaluating existing systems and application software and recommending improvements for response times.
  • Performing problem determination and resolution following OPM’s Change Control process.
  • Monitoring and maintaining the DASD space contained within z/OS’s System Managed Storage subsystem and non-SMS DASD, Unix System Services’ HFS and z/FS file systems, and DASD space used with the zLinux Virtual Servers.
  • Developing, testing, and implementing System Managed Storage’s Automated Class Selection (ACS) routines to implement storage management policies.
  • Assisting OPM business partners in the development of the requirements for SMS constructs to satisfy their data set life cycle management objectives.
  • Monitoring and tuning a Virtual Tape Server and Automatic Tape Library.
  • Installing, implementing, and maintaining data mirroring software running on the z/OS system used to communicate with Contractor software residing in the DASD hardware controllers for the purpose of data mirroring. The data mirroring is used in disaster recovery of the data in a remote recovery facility.
  • Planning and implementing a disaster recovery process that recovers DASD volumes at a remote site when the volumes must be recovered using storage cartridges.
  • Meeting CIO/EIS/DC’s requirements for DASD performance, space, and availability.
  • Automating storage management tasks.
  • Matching the logical needs of users' data to the physical characteristics of storage devices.
  • Reclaiming wasted DASD space.
  • Implementing a backup methodology using EMC’s Timefinder or IBM’s SNAPSHOT to increase the window for performing nightly backup.

Job Requirements (Education/Skills/Experience):

  • Three years of demonstrated experience as a z/OS System Programmer, with at least two years in z/OS V2.1 or above.
  • Three years of recent demonstrated experience implementing Storage Management Subsystem (SMS) automatic class selection (ACS) routines.
  • Three years of recent demonstrated experience in implementing storage management software under z/OS.
  • Recent experience participating in technically complex systems software/integration projects involving IBM zEnterprise Server systems.
  • Recent experience with virtual DASD architecture.
  • Recent experience with virtual tape server architecture.
  • Recent demonstrated experience in implementing and testing a disaster recovery plan.
  • Recent demonstrated experience maintaining the DASD space contained within z/OS’s System Managed Storage subsystem and non-SMS DASD, Unix System Services’ HFS and z/FS file systems, and DASD space used with the zLINUX Virtual Servers.
  • Recent demonstrated experience with IBM DFSMSrmm or equivalent tape management system.
  • Three years of recent demonstrated experience implementing asynchronous mirroring over geographical distance.
  • Five years of recent experience working with disk virtualization and supporting data consistency with data fast replication.
