Job Summary:

DDC 4C is seeking an Environmental Specialist V to join our team to provide environmental compliance consultation and management services in the development and implementation of environmental compliance programs. Assignments pertain to development of management plans to comply with Federal, state, and local environmental control regulations and goals (e.g., water, air, solid waste. The position requires thorough knowledge of all State, Federal, and Local regulations pertaining to environmental compliance programs.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Project Planning and Coordination: Plan, coordinate, and execute environmental conservation, restoration, compliance, and pollution prevention projects. Adapt approaches to address complex and non-routine challenges, requiring substantive modification of methods and procedures.

  2. Regulatory Compliance and Permitting: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Incorporate regulatory requirements into project design, implementation, and evaluation. Prepare and maintain permits in accordance with pertinent regulations.

  3. Project Development and Evaluation: Develop project plans, establish environmental procedures, and define long and short-term goals and objectives. Evaluate project progress and effectiveness, managing resources throughout project completion.

  4. Monitoring and Analysis: Conduct environmental sampling, analyze laboratory reports, and interpret data to identify hazardous conditions and regulatory noncompliance. Ensure monitoring and sampling equipment is calibrated and functions properly.

  5. Documentation and Reporting: Prepare written plans, schedules, and milestones for projects. Generate reports on project outcomes, compliance status, and recommendations for improvement. Coordinate preparation of documentation, such as environmental assessments and air conformity determinations.

  6. Team Coordination and Training: Coordinate spill response and abatement team activities. Organize and administer meetings to discuss environmental issues. Develop and conduct environmental training programs. Participate in meetings related to assigned projects.

  7. Data Analysis and Trend Identification: Analyze data from various sources to identify trends in environmental functions and operations. Recommend improvements or areas of further study based on findings.

  8. Other duties as assigned. 

Job Requirements (Education/Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in specialization or related discipline and 7 yr. applicable experience or have a minimum of 10 yr. applicable experience in related discipline; or a Master’s Degree in specialization or related discipline and 5 yr. applicable experience; or a Doctorate Degree in specialization or related discipline and 3 yr. applicable experience.
  • 5 years of experience leading and supervising employees and projects.
  • Must be able to pass background checks in order to access and work on Federal sites.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge/understanding of other Federal, State, and Local Environmental Compliance and Permitting.
  • Certifications and training preferred: 40-hour HAZWOPER, HAZWOPER Supervisor, First Aid and CPR, 30 Hours OSHA General construction training, DOT HM Shipping, Asbestos and Lead Abatement Certification, and Hazardous Waste Generator Certification. Must be able to obtain within 1-6 months from start of position.
  • Shall be Respiratory Protection qualified, to include medical screening, fit checks, and Respiratory Protection Training.
  • Dependable, flexible, and able to travel and spend time in the field.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook).
