Job Summary:

The Enterprise Architect – Senior is responsible for designing and managing secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud solutions—primarily in Microsoft Azure—that align with agency strategy and federal compliance mandates. This includes leading Azure platform engineering efforts such as configuring Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure Policy, and secure landing zones; implementing governance through RBAC and tagging; and integrating Zero Trust security principles. The role also involves optimizing cloud spend, supporting hybrid cloud integration, and collaborating across IT, security, and DevOps teams to modernize infrastructure and ensure operational resilience. Additionally, the architect defines information requirements for infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, ensuring visibility into cloud assets, enforcing tagging for cost and compliance tracking, integrating with security tools, and automating secure, policy-compliant deployments across environments.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze cloud spending, identify trends, and develop strategies to optimize and reduce costs.
  • Create and maintain budgets for cloud services. Forecast future costs based on trends and organizational growth.
  • Evaluate and select Azure services (e.g., Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure Functions, Azure Policy) to support enterprise workloads.
  • Work closely with NTIA ITD to understand their cloud needs and ensure alignment with the budget.
  • Collaborate with security operations to embed Zero Trust principles, identity governance, and threat protection into cloud designs.
  • Ensure compliance with federal mandates (e.g., FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, EO 14028, CNSSI 1253) and internal security policies.
  • Design secure landing zones using Azure and Policy.
  • Implement Azure governance models including management groups, role-based access control (RBAC), and tagging strategies.
  • Monitor and optimize cloud spend using Azure Cost Management and Azure Advisor.
  • Architect solutions that leverage cloud-native services while integrating with on-prem systems (hybrid cloud).
  • Work closely with DevOps, security, and infrastructure teams to ensure architectural consistency.
  • Provide architectural oversight for cloud migration and modernization projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements (Education/Skills/Experience):

  • Active DoD Secret clearance required!
  • Education: Minimum bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Certifications: Desired certifications in Cloud Architecture/Engineer or similar certification.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Cloud Architecture and Cyber Security.
  • Additional Experience Desired:
  • Familiarity with FISMA, NIST, OMB, and other federal cybersecurity compliance standards.
  • Experience working with DOC or similar federal agencies.
  • Systems Tools Familiarity:
    • Jira, ServiceNow, SharePoint, CloudFlare, GitHub, Salesforce
    • Dataverse: A secure data platform that integrates with all Power Platform tools
    • MS Defender suite to include: Defender for endpoint, Cloud apps, MS Sentinel, Sentinel One, Splunk, and Tenable
    • Sentinel One, Splunk, Tenable and Cloudflare for vulnerability management, and Continuous Monitoring
    • NetApp and Microsoft Azure for backups and storage
  • Work Location: NTIA Headquarters, Washington, DC
