Job Summary:

Red Canyon Technologies is seeking a senior-level Cybersecurity & Communications Engineer to support high-visibility Department of Defense (DoD) programs. This position provides advanced technical, programmatic, and advisory expertise in the design, implementation, accreditation, and lifecycle support of enterprise-level information systems, networks, and SATCOM systems. The engineer will lead cybersecurity compliance efforts across Risk Management Framework (RMF), NIST 800-53, ICD-503, and CNSSI-1253 domains, while driving secure integration of advanced communications systems supporting Remote Piloted Aircraft (RPA), Aircraft Control Networks (ACN), and Squadron Operations Centers (SOC).

 

The successful candidate will directly interface with DoD stakeholders, government program managers, and contractor teams to ensure that mission-critical systems remain secure, resilient, and fully accredited for operational use.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading cybersecurity engineering and secure communications integration activities in support of defense test and operational programs. Duties include:

  • Serving as Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) overseeing cybersecurity accreditation and lifecycle support for enterprise and airborne communication systems.

  • Developing and maintaining System Security Plans (SSPs), CONOPS, Configuration Management Plans (CMPs), POA&Ms, and related documentation using eMASS, XACTA, and Blade Risk Manager.

  • Ensuring compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements, including STIGs, SCAP, ACAS/Nessus, and penetration testing standards.

  • Leading vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and risk analysis for complex systems including RPAs, SATCOM, ACNs, and SOC infrastructure.

  • Engineering, installing, and maintaining secure networks and communications systems, including aircraft command and control networks and enterprise IT infrastructure.

  • Acting as subject-matter expert for RPA communications and test center/squadron operations environments.

  • Supporting design reviews, system upgrades, and technology integration; drafting and reviewing RFPs, SOWs, task orders, and technical diagrams.

  • Managing multi-million-dollar classified networks and operational environments, ensuring configuration control, cybersecurity posture, and availability.

  • Supervising personnel and contractors supporting Network Operations Centers.

  • Drafting standard operating procedures, checklists, and training documentation to ensure operational compliance and readiness.

  • Providing project management support including cost, schedule, risk, and reporting to senior leadership.

  • Preparing program status reports, monthly metrics, and technical briefings for DoD stakeholders.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements (Education/Skills/Experience):

Required:

  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or related field.

  • 15+ years of combined experience in cybersecurity, network engineering, and DoD communications systems.

  • Demonstrated expertise with RMF, NIST 800-53, ICD-503, CNSSI-1253, and DoD certification/accreditation processes.

  • Proficiency with eMASS, XACTA, Blade Risk Manager, and model-based risk assessment tools.

  • Hands-on experience with enterprise IT infrastructure, switches, routers, firewalls, and SATCOM systems.

  • Strong background in penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, and risk management methodologies.

  • Proven leadership and project management experience, including managing personnel, budgets, and multi-site projects.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and technical writing skills.

  • Mastery of Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%.


Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Information Systems Security, Cybersecurity, or related field.

  • Certifications such as CISSP, Security+, CTNS, or other DoD-approved IAT/IAM certifications.

  • Prior military experience or equivalent support to DoD programs.

  • Demonstrated record of proactive cybersecurity initiatives and innovative communications solutions.
