Job Summary:

We are seeking a Systems Engineer to provide expert-level systems engineering, configuration management, and technical support for enterprise infrastructure within the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Critical Cloud and Infrastructure Support (CCIS) program. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for implementing, maintaining, and optimizing multi-platform IT systems across on-premise, virtual, and cloud environments while ensuring compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) cybersecurity and configuration standards.

The ideal candidate will possess strong systems engineering experience, including the integration of cloud technologies, automation, and security controls within complex DoD IT environments. This position requires analytical depth, hands-on technical capability, and a proactive approach to systems performance, reliability, and modernization.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, design, install, configure, and maintain enterprise systems and infrastructure supporting cloud, virtual, and on-premise environments.
  • Support system administration for Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating systems and enterprise databases such as Oracle and SQL Server.
  • Monitor system performance, implement performance tuning, and troubleshoot complex system-level issues.
  • Develop, test, and deploy system automation using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and PowerShell to improve configuration management and system efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity frameworks including RMF, DISA STIGs, and NIST 800-53 controls.
  • Collaborate with network, database, and cybersecurity teams to deliver integrated and secure system architectures.
  • Support containerization and orchestration solutions such as Docker, Kubernetes, or Red Hat OpenShift.
  • Manage patching, version upgrades, and vulnerability remediation in accordance with DLA and DoD policies.
  • Document system configurations, architecture diagrams, operational procedures, and change management records.
  • Contribute to technology modernization and cloud migration strategies to enhance mission performance and resiliency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements (Education/Skills/Experience):

  • Clearance: Must possess an active Secret clearance and be eligible for IT-I (Tier 5/SSBI) / Critical Sensitive access. U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Certifications:
    • DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II baseline certification (e.g., Security+, CASP+, or CISSP).
    • One of the following Google Cloud Platform certifications: Associate Cloud Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect.
    • Plus one or more of the following certifications:
      • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
      • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional)
      • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator
      • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
      • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
      • Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate
      • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Cloud Operations
      • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Five (5) or more years of professional experience in the engineering field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of professional experience in systems engineering with relevant experience in cloud systems, operating environments, and infrastructure maintenance in DoD or Federal information system settings.

  • Hands-on experience managing systems within cloud computing environments (GCP, AWS, Azure, OCI).
  • Proficiency in system performance tuning, automation, and configuration management.
  • Knowledge of DoD IT systems engineering lifecycle, change management, and compliance standards.
  • Experience supporting multi-domain environments involving hybrid cloud and on-premise integrations.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills with a focus on process improvement and security compliance.

Desired Experience and Skillset:

  • Three (3) years of hands-on experience supporting DoD IT hosting or enterprise cloud solutions.
  • Expertise with Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure environments.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) models.
  • Experience administering Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating systems, as well as Oracle and SQL databases.
  • Strong understanding of network architecture including VPCs, load balancers, and firewall configurations.
  • Experience automating provisioning, patching, and compliance using Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Proficiency with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, and PowerShell.
  • Experience deploying and managing containerized applications using Docker or OpenShift.
  • Demonstrated expertise in applying DISA STIGs, conducting patch management, and maintaining audit readiness.
