Job Summary:

We are seeking a Virtual Platform Administrator to provide enterprise-level support for the design, implementation, and sustainment of virtualized environments within the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Critical Cloud and Infrastructure Support (CCIS) program. The Virtual Platform Administrator will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing VMware, Red Hat, and multi-cloud infrastructure to ensure operational continuity, scalability, and compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) cybersecurity standards.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience managing virtual infrastructure and leading multi-disciplinary virtualization projects across cloud and on-premise environments. This position requires expert-level proficiency in VMware administration, system automation, and virtualization security management.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer, configure, and maintain enterprise virtual server infrastructure, including VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter servers.
  • Ensure availability, performance, and security of all virtualized systems and supporting infrastructure.
  • Perform installation, upgrades, patch management, and system hardening to maintain security compliance with DISA STIGs and DoD policies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including network, database, and cybersecurity engineers, to ensure reliable and secure IT service delivery.
  • Support virtualization and containerization technologies integrated with commercial cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, OCI, GCP).
  • Develop and maintain documentation including architecture diagrams, configuration baselines, and operational procedures.
  • Monitor and analyze system performance, implement improvements, and provide tier III troubleshooting support for complex issues.
  • Perform workload migration and resource optimization within virtual and hybrid environments.
  • Implement automation and orchestration solutions using PowerCLI, Ansible, or other infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Support disaster recovery and continuity operations planning, execution, and testing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements (Education/Skills/Experience):

  • Clearance: Must possess an active Secret clearance and be eligible for IT-I (Tier 5/SSBI) / Critical Sensitive access. U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Certifications:
    • DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II baseline certification (e.g., Security+, CASP+, or CISSP).
    • One of the following Google Cloud Platform certifications: Associate Cloud Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect.
    • Plus one of the following certifications:
      • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
      • AWS Certified Security – Specialty
      • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional
      • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator
      • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
      • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
      • Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate
      • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Cloud Operations
      • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
    • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification is a plus.
  • Education:Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Seven (7) years of progressive experience managing and maintaining virtualized server environments and hosted applications.
  • At least two (2) years leading large-scale, multi-disciplinary IT projects involving virtualization, networking, and systems administration.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive experience supporting and managing enterprise virtualization environments, with demonstrated leadership in implementing and maintaining large-scale DoD or Federal virtual infrastructures.
  • Proficiency in VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi administration, including performance tuning and automation scripting.
  • Experience managing enterprise virtual environments within DoD or Federal agencies.
  • Familiarity with hybrid and multi-cloud environments integrating AWS, Azure, OCI, and GCP.
  • Strong understanding of network configurations, storage systems (SAN/NAS), and security controls within virtualized infrastructures.
  • Excellent analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to technical excellence and compliance.

Desired Experience and Skillset:

  • Five (5) years of hands-on experience supporting DoD commercial cloud hosting solutions.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining complex multicloud environments.
  • Proficiency with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or PowerCLI for system provisioning and compliance.
  • Deep understanding of IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS models and their integration within secure environments.
  • Knowledge of virtual networking concepts including VLANs, firewalls, and routing configurations.
  • Experience scripting administrative processes to enhance system efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills across technical and programmatic teams.
